Sexually Transmitted Diseases—Chlamydial and Gonococcal Infections
Indu S Nair
Abstract
Chlamydia trachomatis causes chlamydial infections and Neisseria gonorrhoeae causes gonorrheal infections. These are sexually transmitted infections in adults and adolescents, but pregnant women can transmit these infections to their neonates during delivery. Prenatal screening and treatment of pregnant women are very effective for the prevention of chlamydial infections and gonococcal ophthalmia in neonates.
