Epidemics and Pandemics and Their Effects on Pregnancy: A Brief Review

Abstract
Several infectious disease outbreaks have occurred in the past few years. Modern medicine has not been able to prevent or predict their occurrence, and hence, infectious diseases continue to be a major threat to public health. This review discusses the epidemics and the pandemics that have tormented mankind over the last 2 decades in the context of pregnancy, which include severe acute respiratory syndrome, H1N1 or swine influenza, Middle East respiratory syndrome, Ebola virus disease, Zika virus disease, and coronavirus disease of 2019. We searched the literature to summarize the special considerations and the current understanding of maternal, obstetric, fetal, and neonatal outcomes.
