Abstract
Background and Aim: When diabetes mellitus is associated with urologic disorders, it can worsen urologic complications by increasing their severity. Urologic complications such as urinary incontinence can be managed nonpharmacologically. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) strength training in various positions in diabetic and nondiabetic women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
Materials and Methods: Totally, 50 women who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were randomized into 2 groups—the study group (group A) and the control group (group B). Group A women were prescribed PFM strengthening exercise in various positions along with the knack maneuver, and group B women were prescribed only conservative management such as the knack maneuver, for 12 weeks.
Results: Group A women showed a marked improvement in PFM strength and reduction in urine leakage compared with that in group B women.
Conclusion: PFM strength training in various positions was effective in reducing SUI in both diabetic and nondiabetic women.
