Neonatal Lumbar Puncture in Prone Position
Vikrant Balote, HA Venkatesh
Abstract
Neonatal meningitis is an important cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Traumatic lumbar punctures or failure to obtain cerebrospinal fluid lead to repeated attempts. Here, we report a successful lumbar puncture done in the prone position in a postoperative neonate having critical congenital heart disease. Lumbar puncture in the prone position is a novel, safe, and comfortable method. More studies are needed to optimize the position.
