Conundrum of Protein Supplementation in Preterm Neonates

Abstract
The goal of neonatal nutrition is to improve postnatal growth and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. Providing optimal nutrition to this high-risk population has been a constant challenge for neonatologists. The European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) has advocated the daily nutritional requirements of preterm and term neonates. This review article discusses the challenges faced and offers some recommendations.
