Abstract

Umbilical cord entanglement is a common finding in utero; however, fetal demise due to nuchal cord entanglement is rare. Nuchal cord may be considered worse than strangulation. In nuchal cord, the umbilical cord itself acts as a noose, and the umbilical vein is more vulnerable to collapse. We present a case of sudden intrauterine death of a fetus due to 8 loops of cord around the neck, at 36+6 weeks of gestation.
